It is easy to forget that in the early years with Manchester United it was very tough going for Sir Alex. In his third season without success, Manchester had lost six games in a row and were up against Nottingham Forest in the cup. A formidable challenge. For Sir Alex this was a dark time with the English media sensing blood and chasing him down. He turned to his great predecessor to seek advice, and the advice that was given was astonishingly simple. Sir Alex told Sir Matt Busby that the newspapers were getting him down and he did not know what to do about it. Sir Matt Busby's response.
"Stop reading them then!"
